Mission & Values

Our Mission

We want to create the next generation of strong, lifelong leaders who strive to give back to their community, empower others, and fight to create positive change for all.

Program Values

We focus on reinforcing four core values: generosity, unity, resilience, and leadership. Whether it is our programming decisions or working with participants or coordinating with community members and partners, these four words are at the forefront of everything that we do.

Generosity

We strive to give back and improve ourselves and our community, including current and future teammates, leaders, opponents, players, and community members.

Resilience

We will never give up. We will always fight for equality and inclusivity in sports, and to provide more opportunities for everyone to play. We will honor the efforts of others and work hard to improve ourselves, our teammates, our community, and our sport.

Unity

We believe our community is one family, one heart, and one team. We will support and value one another, protect one another, and positively encourage one another.

Leadership

We will become powerful, impactful leaders in our community. We will continue to push our sport to be the best it can be. We will set the best example of this for the rest of our community, speak up when others need help, and amplify those voices who cannot be heard.

Program Goals

Our goal is to increase the number of leaders from underrepresented genders, including (but not limited to): captains, coaches, event directors, organizers, and project managers. Our belief is that GURLS is an essential and integral piece of our community's larger responsibility in developing our sport by: 1) strengthening and growing the pipeline of new players 2) investing in local teams and programs and 3) developing strong, capable, and empathetic leaders.
We provide extensive, high-quality coaching, support, and resources to ten new leaders each year. We continue to work with them throughout their high school careers and as alumni of our program. We also coordinate and engage extensively with our disc organization and local teams to equitably grow ultimate so that everyone has the change to play and lead.

The Impact of One

We recognize that sports are typically dominated by white, upper/middle-class, cis-men, especially within the highest levels of leadership. We have also seen what this lack of diversity has done to hinder growth in sports. We want to change this by investing whole-heartedly, extensively, and unapologetically in each individual who participates in our program.
We know what one individual can do to make meaningful change on every level. We firmly believe in those who we accept into our program: they are the next generation of leaders in business, sports, community, and more. The GURLS program will provide all of the necessary tools and resources for kids to build their network of allies and succeed in their professional, personal, and sports careers.
